Mumbai, July 20: Indian triple jumper Selva Prabhu is gearing up for his senior debut at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The World Under-20 silver medalist and NCAA champion has established himself as one of India’s most promising athletes in men’s triple jump. The 21-year-old is ready to represent India on one of the biggest stages of his career, where wearing the national jersey is both an honor and a responsibility.
Selva expressed, “It is a great honor to represent India in my first senior multi-sport games. I have dreamed of wearing the Indian jersey on such a platform for many years. I am proud of this opportunity, and my goal is to perform my best, bring glory to my country, and gain valuable experience by competing against the world’s best athletes.”
After spending several years in the highly competitive NCAA circuit in the United States, Selva believes this experience has played a crucial role in his development as an athlete.
He stated, “Competing in the NCAA has helped me improve in every aspect. The level of competition there is very high, which motivates me to become better technically, physically, and mentally. Training with excellent coaches and competing against world-class athletes every week has boosted my confidence. I am better prepared for international competitions now.”
Discussing his preparations ahead of Glasgow, Selva emphasized the importance of consistency in training performance. He said, “My main focus has been on improving my speed, consistency, and technique. The key in triple jump is to execute everything correctly on competition day. My coach and I have worked hard on maintaining rhythm during the approach and different phases, while also ensuring that I stay physically strong and healthy.”
With the standard of men’s triple jump rising internationally, Selva is concentrating on delivering his best performance rather than thinking too far ahead. He remarked, “The competition is tough, which motivates me even more. My goal is to perform at my best and compete with confidence. If I can execute my jumps correctly, I know I can achieve a good result. If I can push myself to perform around or better than my personal best, I will feel satisfied.”
Selva also acknowledged the role of the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in his journey to the Commonwealth Games. He said, “IIS has been a crucial part of my journey. They have supported my training, sports science, recovery, and overall development as an athlete. Their trust in me has allowed me to focus on improving myself every day. I am grateful for their support and hope to live up to that trust by delivering a great performance for India.”
As the Indian athletics team prepares for the Commonwealth Games, Selva aims to transform his years of consistent performance into a remarkable debut at the senior multi-sport event.
