Imphal, February 17: Authorities reported that Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spear Corps, conducted a comprehensive tour of Manipur on Monday to assess the current security situation amid ongoing challenges.
According to a defense spokesperson, the GOC visited key areas in the hill districts of Ukhrul and Kangpokpi, as well as the Imphal East and Imphal West districts in the Imphal Valley.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Pendharkar received detailed information about the operational environment and ground-level activities from commanders of the Red Shield Division, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-South), and other formation commanders.
The GOC reviewed the deployment of the Army and Assam Rifles and engaged directly with troops to evaluate their readiness to address emerging security challenges.
Appreciating the soldiers’ professional demeanor and unwavering commitment to maintaining peace in difficult circumstances, Lieutenant General Pendharkar emphasized the need for steadfast preparedness for the mission.
The spokesperson noted that he instructed all units to maintain a high level of vigilance and operational agility, especially in sensitive and volatile areas, to effectively respond to any rapidly evolving situations.
In a related incident, security forces arrested five hardcore militants linked to various insurgent organizations from different districts in Manipur on Monday.
Additionally, a drug trafficker named Mohammad Zaid Khan (42) from Thoubal district was apprehended. Authorities seized approximately 397 grams of heroin packed in ten soap boxes, a single-barrel gun with six live cartridges, and a two-wheeler from him.
