New Delhi: Scotland has secured its official entry into the T20 World Cup 2026. Following the decision to exclude Bangladesh from the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted Scotland a spot based on team rankings. Scotland will compete in Group C, taking the place previously held by Bangladesh.
This is not the first instance where Scotland has benefited from another team’s withdrawal to enter the T20 World Cup. A similar situation occurred in 2009 during the second edition of the tournament held in England. Back then, Zimbabwe had qualified alongside South Africa from the African region but had to withdraw due to a ban imposed by England. Scotland was invited to replace Zimbabwe in that tournament.
Although considered a relatively weaker side, Scotland has maintained consistent participation in the T20 World Cup over the years. The team has competed in the 2007, 2009, 2016, 2021, 2022, and 2024 editions, missing out only in 2010, 2012, and 2014. The 2026 tournament will mark Scotland’s seventh appearance in the T20 World Cup.

Notably, the team defeated England in the 2024 edition, West Indies in 2022, and Bangladesh in 2021. These wins have highlighted Scotland’s ability to challenge stronger opponents on the big stage.
