Khajuraho Among Hottest Places in India as Mercury Soars to 44.4°C
BHOPAL — Madhya Pradesh continues to reel under a severe heatwave, with extreme temperatures baking large parts of the state. On Thursday, Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district recorded a scorching 44.4°C, making it the seventh hottest location in India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for 13 districts today, April 25, with some respite expected in the form of thunderstorms and rain beginning tomorrow.

Heatwave Warning for 13 Districts Amid High Temperatures
The IMD has warned of intense heat and dry conditions in Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari, where heatwave conditions are expected to persist throughout Friday. Other major cities including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur are also witnessing oppressive temperatures, all crossing the 40°C mark.
Asphalt on roads has reportedly melted in some areas due to the blistering heat. Pachmarhi, the state’s only hill station, provided a mild exception, recording a comparatively lower 36.6°C.
Mild Weather Shift Expected from April 26
Relief may be on the horizon, as Western Disturbances and an active trough system are likely to bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of the state from April 26 to April 28. The weather pattern may offer temporary cooling in select areas, though heat will likely persist across much of the state thereafter.
Despite this, meteorologists caution that the overall summer pattern remains severe. Even cities not under heatwave alerts are expected to see high temperatures continuing into next week.
