Jaipur : Major General Vikram Varma, Vishisht Seva Medal, the Officiating Chief of Staff of Sapta Shakti Command laid wreath at the Prerna Sthal at Jaipur Military Station on 26 Jul 22 to pay tribute to the Veer Yodhas who made supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation during the Kargil War of 1999. The General officer also expressed gratitude towards the parents and brave Veer Naris of Kargil Heroes. On behalf of the Army Commander, he greeted all ranks of the Command on the occasion and exhorted them to remain ceaselessly vigilant as protectors of security and territorial integrity of our nation. In another event at Jaipur, the Station Commander of Jaipur Military Station, Brig J S Bisht, Sena Medal led a team of veterans to lay wreath and pay regards to the fallen soldiers at the state war memorial, Amar Jawan Jyoti.
As part of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, various events were held at different stations of Sapta Shakti Command which included screening of motivational movies, motivational talks by gallantry awardees and war veterans, band symphony, painting and drawing competitions for students in schools and wreath laying at war memorials. In a special radio show on ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, Col Vikram Singh Grewal of Sapta Shakti Command was invited. Col Vikram Singh Grewal who actively participated in the Kargil War in Batalik Sector as Regimental Medical officer with 5 PARACHUTE Regiment narrated the stories/ heroics of extraordinary human courage of Indian Soldiers displaying incomparable bravery on All India Radio. The officer was a young captain and as the Doctor with a Maroon Beret treated 75 causalities including two Prisoners of War.
Indian Army achieved a famous victory in general area Kargil on the Line of Control in J & K in 1999 displaying extraordinary grit, courage and fortitude in the most inhospitable terrain. To commemorate the victory of Indian Army in OPERATION VIJAY in the Kargil war of 1999, ‘ Kargil Vijay Diwas’ is celebrated on 26 Jul every year.
