Mumbai, August 10: Abu Azmi, a leader of the Samajwadi Party and a sitting MLA in Maharashtra, has raised serious questions regarding the death of Atiq Ahmed’s son, Aban. He expressed skepticism about the circumstances surrounding the incident, suggesting that true justice may not be served.
In a conversation about the event, Azmi stated that numerous natural questions arise, casting doubt on the developments that have emerged so far. He emphasized the need for the law to operate without interference or bias. According to him, only a fair and transparent investigation can reveal the truth of the matter and restore public trust.
Azmi insisted that the investigation should proceed, but he questioned the credibility of those who can execute such actions in broad daylight and under police custody. He expressed that the hope for justice seems bleak. “The only recourse is the court, but even there, satisfaction is not guaranteed. I do not wish to say too much to avoid contempt,” he remarked.
He further stated that if there are charges against someone, they should be apprehended. While some individuals have been arrested and punished, the government appears to project strength, claiming it will not tolerate any form of intimidation. However, the events surrounding Atiq Ahmed and his family have led many to suspect foul play.
Azmi noted that Atiq was not in jail at the time; he was visiting his brother when the accident occurred. This has led to public suspicion regarding the government’s role, suggesting that an impartial agency should conduct the investigation to provide reassurance to the people.
When asked about the safety of other family members, he mentioned that he could not definitively comment at this time. “Time will tell if there is any threat, although no one should be in danger,” he added.
Regarding potential suspects behind the incident, he questioned, “When someone’s death occurs in police custody, who could be responsible?” Azmi criticized the government, alleging that the administration aims to convey that it holds power and will not tolerate any form of bullying or intimidation.
He pointed out that some reports have labeled the incident as a road accident, but he insisted that a thorough investigation by a credible agency is necessary to uncover all facts.
Azmi stressed the importance of maintaining public trust in law and order. He believes that an investigation by a reliable and independent central agency would eliminate doubts, ensure accountability, and affirm that no one is above the law.
He reiterated that the truth of this case can only emerge if the investigation is conducted free from any political or administrative influence.
