New Delhi, 15 November (Daily Kiran). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a major change to their core group by completing one of the most significant trades in IPL history. Sanju Samson has been traded to CSK for ₹18 crore, while Ravindra Jadeja has returned to Rajasthan Royals (RR) for ₹14 crore. The move comes after two weak seasons in which the five-time champions failed to reach the playoffs and struggled with an ageing middle order, limited hitting power, and a shrinking spin department.

Samson’s arrival is expected to resolve several concerns related to CSK’s batting. However, the question remains whether one player can fully fix structural issues that have existed for two years. His record for Rajasthan—4027 runs in 11 seasons, leading the team to the 2022 final, and scoring a career-best 531 runs in 2024—highlights his impact. His request to be released after IPL 2025 had already indicated an inevitable move, and CSK, searching for balance in the post-Dhoni era, became his natural destination.

On the other hand, parting ways with Jadeja is a major challenge for CSK. The team’s decade-long success has been built around its spin strategy, with Jadeja at the centre—143 wickets, three titles, and his memorable match-winning effort in the 2023 final. Even though players like Noor Ahmad and Shreyas Gopal are available, replacing Jadeja will not be easy. CSK will now need to find an Indian spin all-rounder in the mini-auction, a category in extremely short supply.

For Rajasthan, Jadeja’s return is both emotional and strategic. The team’s collapse in the second phase of IPL 2025 and Samson’s injury highlighted a lack of experience and balance. Jadeja brings both—leadership depth and control in the death overs.

This trade has become the biggest shake-up ahead of IPL 2026, reshaping the direction of both teams.
