Sanju Samson Shines in IPL 2026: Deep Dasgupta Praises His Performance

New Delhi, May 6: Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026, has captivated the cricketing world with his outstanding performance. On Tuesday, he scored an unbeaten 87 runs against Delhi Capitals, leading CSK to victory. Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta praised Samson’s ability to consistently perform and win matches.

Dasgupta noted that things have changed since the T20 World Cup 2026, where Samson played crucial innings in the semifinals and finals. “This is the best version of Sanju Samson that the cricket world is witnessing,” he stated.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Dasgupta remarked, “This is the version of Sanju Samson we have wanted to see for years. He plays a few innings each season that make us say, ‘Wow, what a player!’ But those innings often remain isolated. However, since the T20 World Cup, he has shown remarkable consistency.”

He added, “This is his only fifty so far. Whenever he crosses fifty, he converts it into a century and rarely gets out. Scoring 87 not out was a fantastic innings, and it felt like he was playing on a different surface.”

Had Delhi Capitals scored a few more runs, Samson might have secured his third century of the season. DC batted first, managing only 155 runs. CSK chased down the target, scoring 159 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in just 17.3 overs, winning the match by 8 wickets. Samson’s innings included 6 sixes and 7 fours off 52 balls.

Samson’s IPL 2026 campaign started on a disappointing note, as he struggled in the first three matches. However, he has since transformed his game, scoring 2 centuries and 1 half-century in his last 7 innings. After three consecutive losses, Samson played a pivotal role in CSK’s strong comeback, earning the Player of the Match title three times in the team’s five victories. He is currently the top scorer for the team, amassing 402 runs in 10 innings.
