Mumbai, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has responded sharply to Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud’s assertion that the Supreme Court‘s doors are open to all. Raut questioned this claim, pointing out that the Chief Justice declined a meeting with leaders from the INDIA alliance.
During a march organized by the INDIA coalition on Monday, Raut announced plans to march to the Supreme Court. He stated that all partner parties and leaders would participate. Raut revealed that he had requested a meeting with the Chief Justice, which was initially scheduled for around 4 or 5 PM but was abruptly canceled. According to Raut, the Chief Justice stated that he does not have the authority to meet with opposition leaders or political delegations, a decision that he believes has shocked the public.
Raut expressed deep concerns about the state of democracy and the Constitution in the country, claiming that citizens are increasingly taking to the streets over issues of vote and election theft. “When all avenues for hearings are closed to us, we sought an audience with the Chief Justice, but he has shut his door,” Raut lamented. He emphasized that history will remember this moment when the Supreme Court closed its doors to the people during a national crisis.
He urged the Chief Justice to listen to their concerns, requesting just 24 minutes for a meeting. In a conversation, Raut elaborated on the alarming trend of constitutional erosion and the suppression of democracy, mentioning the removal of millions of names from voter lists. He accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of acting in the government’s favor, leading to the necessity of a meeting with the Chief Justice—who, according to Raut, seems unwilling to engage.
Raut also announced the initiation of a protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, challenging authorities to try and prevent it.
