Mumbai, February 27: The film “Tere Naam,” released in 2003, features Salman Khan‘s unforgettable portrayal of Radhe. His hairstyle, dialogue delivery, and emotional intensity became a trend during that era. This cult classic has been re-released on screens today.
After “Tere Naam” hit theaters, many youngsters attempted to emulate the actor’s style, particularly his black shirt and blue jeans look. However, few know that Salman was not the first choice for the role of Radhe, and stepping into this character was quite challenging for him.
The story of “Tere Naam” revolves around a young man who falls in love with a simple girl, but instead of love, he faces only punishment. The film’s climax is notably heartbreaking. Initially, Aamir Khan was offered the role, but he requested two years to prepare for the character. The filmmakers could not afford such a lengthy wait, leading them to approach Anil Kapoor, who also declined after hearing the story. This left the makers in a dilemma about which hero to cast.
Lyricist Sameer Anjaan revealed that Salman Khan immediately agreed to the film’s story because he was going through a tough phase in his life. Following his breakup with Aishwarya Rai in 2002, his behavior had changed significantly. Sameer noted that Salman was deeply moved by the song “Kyun Kisi Ko Wafa Ke Badle Wafa Nahi Milti,” and he insisted on keeping the song intact without any changes.
According to the lyricist, Salman’s mental state allowed him to connect deeply with the film’s narrative and its pain. This connection made portraying Radhe challenging, but he dedicated himself fully to the film’s production.
