Mumbai, May 7: Actor Saif Ali Khan is in the spotlight for his upcoming film “Kartevya.” During the trailer launch on Thursday, he shared an anecdote from the early days of his career. He recounted how a film director once advised him against taking on a police role, citing his lack of the necessary seriousness for the character.
Saif recalled, “I still remember the first time I wore a police uniform for the film ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ while we were shooting the climax. At that time, Akshay Kumar played the police officer, and I was portraying a simple character. I was trying to learn the nuances of the film industry.”
He further revealed that the director had told him, “Never take on a police role seriously in your life, because you cannot pull it off. You don’t have the strength or presence to look like a police officer. If you attempt this role, it will come off as comedic, so don’t even try.”
Saif considered this feedback a valuable lesson. He stated, “It’s amazing that if you keep practicing, learning, and moving forward, you gradually improve over time. Work can feel boring without pressure. If there’s no pressure at all, it loses its excitement. A little pressure brings out the best in you. However, not every day is the same. In films, some days can be very challenging, while the next day might be more balanced and easier. There’s a unique thrill in navigating these ups and downs.”
When asked whether he finds romantic comedies easier than serious roles like in “Kartevya,” Saif candidly responded. He admitted that growing up in urban settings makes it much easier for him to engage in romantic comedies.
He explained, “‘Rom-com’ films often allow you to play a version of yourself. They incorporate elements of my real life, such as parenting, school responsibilities, and family. In my personal life, I always strive to ensure that I’m not disappointing my mother.”
