Ryan Rickelton Praises Rohit Sharma as One of Indias Greatest Batsmen

Mumbai, May 5: In a thrilling IPL 2026 match, the Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a 6-wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Ryan Rickelton played a pivotal role in this win and was named Player of the Match for his explosive half-century.

After the match, Rickelton expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma, stating, “He is one of the greatest batsmen for India and the Mumbai team. It feels great to open the innings and spend time on the crease with him. We are fortunate that the wickets at Wankhede have been excellent. We have managed to coordinate well, applying pressure on the bowlers at the right moments while supporting each other.”

Discussing the challenge of chasing a big target, Rickelton noted, “The way targets are being chased in the IPL these days is unusual. As Suryakumar Yadav mentioned, a good start sets the stage. I believe that’s the trend for this team. While we haven’t played to our full potential this season, we have batting depth from positions 3 to 9. We have a lot of capability.”

On his own batting performance, Rickelton remarked, “I wouldn’t say my job is done, but I do have a clear role of what I need to do once I step onto the crease.”

LSG batted first, scoring 228 runs for 5 wickets, thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 63 runs off just 21 balls.

Rickelton and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for MI, putting together a remarkable partnership of 143 runs in just 10.5 overs for the first wicket. Rickelton scored 83 runs off 32 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 6 fours, while Rohit Sharma contributed 84 runs off 44 balls, including 7 sixes and 6 fours. Naman Dhir added 23 runs off 12 balls, and Will Jacks remained unbeaten with 10 runs off 4 balls. Rickelton was named Player of the Match.
