Rs 17.66 cr for rain & flood relief by Centre shocking : Ramadass

Puducherry, March 4 : Stating that the provision of Rs.17.66 crore to the on Territory towards rain and flood relief by the on government cannot be justified and shocking, former Lok Sabha member from Puducherry Prof.M Ramadass on Friday demanded that if the Prime Minister and the on government is really concerned about the UT, Lt.Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan should hold talks with the Centre and get the left out Rs 282.34 crore. In a statement here, Ramadass said the state government after assessing the damages demanded Rs.300 crore and the centre provided only 5.9 percent of the sought amount. This is happening since, the approach of the Central government is wrong, he said, adding that ignoring the recommendations of a democratically elected government shows the “masterly attitude “ of the Centre. Pointing out that the Chief Minister N Rangaswamy provided Rs.156.40 crore to 3.27 lakh ration card holders to mitigate their sufferings, he said the CM also allotted Rs.186 crore for repairing roads among others things but the on Territory of Puducherry requires Rs.500 crore. “Some persons” are speaking that the on government will provide all assistance to the UT and this provision towards rain & flood relief shows that their statement is wrong, he added.
