RJD stakes claim to recognise Rabri as leader of opposition in Council

Patna, April 13 : RJD on Wednesday staked claim for recognising its senior leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi as leader of the opposition in Bihar Legislative Council. RJD MLC S l Singh handed a letter to acting Chairman of Bihar Legislative Council Awadhesh Narain Singh requesting him to recognize party MLC and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi as leader of the opposition in the upper House. The letter signed by state RJD president Jagadanand Singh pointed out that the party had now 11 members in the upper House, which was more than the minimum eight members required to be recognised as the leader of the opposition. RJD had earlier five members in Council but its strength increased to 11 after recently held elections for 24 seats of Council from local bodies quota. At least 10 per cent of the total strength of the House is required to be recognised its leader as leader of the opposition and it is eight in 75 members strength of the upper House. In recently held elections for 24 seats, BJP had bagged 7 seats followed by RJD- 6 seats, JD(U)-5, Paras faction of LJP-1 seat and Congress-1 seat. Four Independents had also emerged victorious.
