Rising Geopolitical Tensions Propel Crude Oil Prices Amid U.S. Actions in Iran
Crude oil prices surge as U.S. military actions in Iran raise supply concerns amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Global crude oil prices saw a notable increase on Tuesday morning, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. This surge comes in the wake of U.S. military actions on Iran’s Kish Island, raising fears of deepening regional conflict and potential disruptions to energy supplies.
International benchmark Brent crude rose by 2.23 percent, reaching $107.21 per barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed 2.15 percent to trade at $98.62 per barrel. This price jump follows a significant drop in the previous trading session, where Brent crude fell by $8.66, or 7.6 percent, closing at $104.77 per barrel.
Media reports, citing U.S. officials, indicate that the military targeted Kish Island. Some officials characterized this operation as defensive, aimed at curbing Iran’s capabilities to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Market analysts suggest that investors are beginning to reintroduce a “geopolitical risk premium” into crude oil prices, reflecting a heightened sensitivity to potential supply disruptions. Despite these tensions, diplomatic efforts continue. Iran has stated that negotiations with Washington are ongoing in hopes of resolving the conflict. However, recent talks mediated by Qatar have not yielded substantial results, despite Iran presenting revised proposals.
In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the possibility of an agreement with Tehran is not entirely off the table. He expressed uncertainty regarding potential military actions, suggesting that the door for dialogue remains open.
The conflict, which began in late February, has had a lasting impact on the global energy market. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical transit route for nearly 20 percent of the world’s crude oil and natural gas, has been significantly affected, sustaining ongoing concerns about global energy supply.
Experts note that prolonged disruptions are keeping fuel prices elevated, impacting both consumers and governments, particularly in the U.S., where gasoline prices have become a crucial political and economic issue.
In October, Brent crude closed at its highest level in six months. There are worries that tensions in West Asia could escalate following the U.S. midterm elections, potentially leading to further volatility in oil prices.
In another significant development, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has granted the government additional powers to advance peace talks. This suggests that efforts for a diplomatic solution are ongoing alongside military tensions.
Analysts believe that the events in West Asia, U.S. political developments, and navigation conditions in the Strait of Hormuz will play a critical role in determining the direction of global crude oil prices in the coming days.
