Gurugram, February 24: A retired Colonel of the Indian Army was allegedly attacked in a road rage incident in Gurugram. Police have arrested five suspects, while one remains at large.
The victim has been identified as Colonel Anil Yadav (retired). On the night of February 21, he was driving towards Sector 60 after visiting his ailing father at Medanta Hospital in Sector 5 when his car collided with another vehicle, leading to a confrontation.
According to the retired officer’s complaint, six young men in the other car stopped him and reportedly began to assault him. The assailants allegedly punched him, shattered his car’s windshield and lights, and damaged the vehicle with beer bottles. They also attempted to force him into their car in an apparent kidnapping attempt, but the effort failed due to traffic congestion on the road.
The complaint states that the attackers coerced him into transferring ₹30,000 via UPI before fleeing the scene.
The Colonel sustained injuries and was taken to Artemis Hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment and was later discharged. He later accused the police of delaying action in a post on the social media platform X, claiming that his statement was not recorded immediately and that an FIR was not filed right after the incident. However, the Gurugram police registered an FIR on February 23 at the Sector 50 police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges of assault, extortion, criminal intimidation, and property damage.
Following the complaint, police arrested five suspects identified as Pankaj (23), Vikas (21), Nikhil (21), Sahil (22), and Ankit Kumar (22).
Authorities reported that the suspects had attended a wedding ceremony in Badshahpur on the night of the incident. Investigators revealed that three of the suspects work at a private company in Rewari, while the others are students. One suspect remains at large, and efforts to locate and apprehend him are ongoing. The police stated that further investigations are in progress.
