New Delhi, March 24 : India on Thursday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Conference for its statements and resolutions referring to Jammu and Kashmir and to India’s recent inadvertent missile launch, saying it shows the “irrelevance” of the pan-Islamic body and the role of Pakistan as its manipulator. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a statement said the references to India made at the OIC meet in Islamabad are “based on falsehoods and misrepresentation”. The statement also pointed out to the “absurdity” of the OIC commenting on the treatment of minorities in India, at the provocation of Pakistan – “a serial violator of human rights”. In a strong indictment, it said that Nations and Governments that associate themselves with such exercises “should realise the impact it has on their reputation”. The MEA statement read: “The statements and resolutions adopted at the meeting demonstrate both the irrelevance of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation as a body and role of Pakistan as its manipulator. References have been made to India that are based on falsehoods and misrepresentation. The absurdity of this body commenting on the treatment of minorities, that too at the instance of a serial violator of human rights like Pakistan, is so evident. Nations and Governments that associate themselves with such exercises should realise the impact it has on their reputation,” it said. The 48th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers at Islamabad adopted an action plan on Jammu and Kashmir, calling for greater coordination amongst the member states on the Kashmir issue and to raise it with India and at international fora. It also adopted a resolution endorsing Pakistan’s call for a joint probe to accurately establish the facts surrounding the March 9 incident of firing of a missile into Pakistan from India. RN
