New Delhi, May 21: On the anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s death, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and several party leaders paid tribute to him. Kharge remarked that Rajiv Gandhi was an extraordinary son of India, who inspired millions with hope and aspirations. His legacy continues to shape modern India and serves as an inspiration for future generations.
Kharge shared a message from Rajiv Gandhi on the social media platform ‘X’, where the former Prime Minister stated, “India is an ancient country, but a young nation. I am young, and I have a dream. My dream is to make India strong, independent, self-reliant, and to rank first among all nations while serving humanity.”
In his post, Kharge wrote, “On his death anniversary, we pay our respects to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi. He was an extraordinary son of India, who ignited hope and aspirations in the hearts of millions across the country.”
Kharge further noted, “With his vision, courage, and deep faith in India’s future, he laid the foundation for the country’s journey into the 21st century. His transformative initiatives included lowering the voting age to 18, empowering local self-governance through Panchayati Raj, initiating the telecommunications and information technology revolution, promoting computerization, ensuring significant peace agreements, launching the ‘Universal Vaccination Program’, and implementing a progressive education policy focused on inclusive education. His legacy continues to shape modern India and remains a source of inspiration for future generations.”
On Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary, alongside Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi visited ‘Veer Bhoomi’ in Delhi to pay their respects. Many senior Congress leaders were also present.
Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar commented, “I would say that what is inscribed here at Veer Bhoomi should be read again, as it succinctly conveys the meaning of his life, his message, and the vision he had for India. Today, there is a significant effort to almost obliterate that dream.”
Jagdish Tytler expressed, “He was a leader like no other I have seen in my life. He was very kind and truly a humane person. The country needed someone like him—someone with a scientific mindset, who cared for children and had a vision for the youth.”
He added, “No one can speak ill of Rajiv Gandhi. He was a wonderful human being. I have seen and worked with five or six Prime Ministers, but there will never be another Prime Minister like Rajiv Gandhi in India.”
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Haryana Assembly, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, stated, “Rajiv Gandhi had a vision for India, especially for the youth. The entire nation had high hopes from him.”
Congress MP Varun Chaudhary remarked, “Prime Ministers are chosen to solve problems, but here it seems that problems are being exacerbated. Steps are being taken contrary to public sentiment. While it is claimed that the country is becoming a ‘Vishwaguru’ (world leader), the ground realities do not reflect this. If we look at neighboring countries and the current global situation, the conditions are far from favorable.”
