Mumbai, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan are two names synonymous with Hindi cinema, often celebrated for their on-screen chemistry. The duo has starred in numerous films together, captivating audiences with their performances. However, in the early days of their collaboration, Rekha found it challenging to feel at ease in front of the camera, especially when working alongside Bachchan.
In a revealing interview on Simi Garewal’s show “Rendezvous with Simi Garewal,” Rekha opened up about her experiences working with the legendary actor. This conversation is also highlighted in Yasir Usman’s book, “Rekha: The Untold Story.” She admitted that during her initial interactions with Amitabh, she often felt overwhelmed and nervous, so much so that she would forget her lines.
The turning point came after watching Amitabh’s remarkable performance in the film “Deewar,” which left her in awe and filled her with respect for him. This admiration led her to put immense pressure on herself to perform at his level.
Rekha first appeared alongside Amitabh in the 1976 film “Do Anjaane,” where he played Amit Roy and she portrayed his wife, Rekha Roy. The film explores themes of ambition, betrayal, and revenge within a marital relationship.
Recalling her early struggles, Rekha mentioned how her anxiety often hindered her ability to deliver her lines, even when she had memorized them. One day, Amitabh advised her, “Listen… please remember your dialogues.” This encouragement motivated Rekha to work diligently on her craft, ultimately establishing her unique identity in the film industry.
Following “Do Anjaane,” the pair continued to collaborate in films such as “Khoon Paseena,” “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar,” “Mr. Natwarlal,” and “Suhag.” Their performances, especially in “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar,” solidified their status as one of Bollywood’s most beloved pairs, making them a staple in the annals of Hindi cinema.
Rekha’s journey from nervousness to confidence is a testament to her dedication and the impact of mentorship in the film industry.
