New Delhi, April 24: The first phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections has witnessed a record turnout, igniting a flurry of political statements. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari asserted that if the party secures over 200 of the 294 seats, it should not come as a surprise. He emphasized that a wave of change is evident in the state.
BJP leader Rohan Gupta, in an interview with a news agency, stated that the high voter turnout is a victory for the people of West Bengal. He accused the Trinamool Congress of opposing the deployment of central forces during the elections, but the results speak for themselves. According to him, the presence of security personnel instilled confidence in voters, allowing them to reach polling stations without fear.
Gupta remarked that the public not only voted for their future but also overcame a climate of fear. He described the turnout as “unprecedented post-independence voting percentage,” expressing gratitude to the people of Bengal for their participation.
Senior BJP leader Shah Nawaz Hussain also made significant claims regarding the first phase of voting. He stated that the heavy turnout indicates that the BJP has already won over 110 seats in this phase. Supporting Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertions, he claimed that the BJP is poised to form a government in West Bengal, potentially achieving a three-fourths majority. Hussain alleged that the public has decided to remove the Trinamool Congress from power, which has contributed to the record voter turnout. He added that this time, any form of violence will not be tolerated, and the Election Commission has made it clear that there will be no room for intimidation or pressure tactics.
