Bengaluru, March 12 : The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday named Faf du Plessis as their new captain for the upcoming 15th edition of the tournament. The announcement was made by the franchise Chairman Prathmesh Mishra in the presence of Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket Operations at the RCB Unbox event held in Bengaluru. South Africa batter Du Plessis became the seventh to captain after Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli and Shane Watson. Kohli has been the longest serving captain for the franchise as he captained the side in 140 matches with 64 wins, 69 losses with a win percentage of 48.16. The South African has previously played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from 2012 to 2015. He represented erstwhile Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017 when CSK faced two-year suspension, and he came back to play for CSK from 2018 to 2021. Du Plessis was picked up by Chennai Super Kings in the 2011 IPL auction but he played his debut game in the league in 2012. BAV GK
