New Delhi, April 6: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a 43-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, marking their second consecutive win in IPL 2026. This match not only showcased RCB’s dominance but also brought them closer to breaking a significant record held by CSK.
CSK won the toss and opted to field first. RCB set a formidable total of 250 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs, thanks to impressive performances from Tim David (70 runs off 25 balls), Rajat Patidar (48 runs off 19 balls), Devdutt Padikkal (50 runs off 29 balls), Phil Salt (46 runs off 30 balls), and Virat Kohli (28 runs off 18 balls).
This marked the 36th instance in IPL history where RCB scored 200 or more runs. The record for the most totals of 200 or above is held by CSK, who have achieved this feat 37 times. If RCB manages to score 200 or more runs in two more matches, they will break CSK’s record. Given RCB’s current form in IPL 2026, CSK’s record is under threat.
In IPL history, Punjab Kings have scored 200 or more runs 33 times, Mumbai Indians 32 times, and Kolkata Knight Riders 30 times.
Looking at the season’s performance, RCB has started where they left off last season. The defending champions of IPL 2025 have won both of their opening matches impressively. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in the season opener and now lead the points table after their victory over CSK.
On the other hand, CSK is replicating last season’s struggles. After finishing in the tenth position in IPL 2025, CSK remains at the bottom of the table in IPL 2026, having lost their first three matches.
