Bengaluru, May 1: Ravi K officially assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Friday. He succeeds Dr. D.K. Sunil, who retired on April 30, 2026.
With over 30 years of experience in research and development, manufacturing, and electronics, Ravi K has a robust background in the aerospace sector. Previously, he served as Director (Operations) at HAL, playing a pivotal role in elevating the company to a Maharatna status.
Ravi K stated, “My aim is to transform HAL into a globally competitive aerospace and defense enterprise driven by innovation, AI, and operational excellence.” He has held several significant leadership positions, including Executive Director and General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division, as well as Executive Director (Corporate Planning).
During his tenure, he successfully completed major contracts for HAL, including the supply of 180 LCA Tejas to the Indian Air Force and 156 LCH Prachand to both the Indian Army and Air Force. He is credited with overseeing the operational readiness of the LCA Tejas fleet within the Indian Air Force.
Ravi K enhanced fleet serviceability through various customer-centric initiatives, established seamless data communication with Indian Air Force bases, and created a single point of contact (SPOC) for timely customer support.
He has also played a crucial role in strengthening indigenous capabilities within the LCA Tejas program by increasing localization and expanding production capacity in Nasik. Furthermore, he was instrumental in developing a robust manufacturing system by outsourcing major aircraft assembly to private sector partners, a strategy that is now yielding solid results through continuous delivery.
His initiatives have diversified HAL into civil manufacturing and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), creating new revenue streams and expanding HAL’s market presence.
Ravi K is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Malnad College of Engineering in Karnataka and is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and IAS, Toulouse, France. He is also a nominated director on the board of Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Limited.
