Ration Card e-KYC Deadline: Complete by April 30 to Continue Receiving Free Ration – Here’s How

New Delhi The Indian government has issued a strict deadline of April 30, 2025, for all ration card holders to complete their e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process. This move is crucial under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), which provides free or subsidized ration to millions across the country. Failure to complete the e-KYC process may result in suspension or removal of names from the ration card, depriving families of essential food grains.

Why e-KYC is Mandatory for Ration Cards

To ensure transparency and eliminate fake beneficiaries, the government has made e-KYC mandatory for all ration card holders. This biometric verification helps link the ration card to Aadhaar, allowing seamless delivery of food subsidies and services.

In several districts like Garhwa in Jharkhand, authorities have already initiated mass e-KYC drives. For example, in Ramna block, nearly 70% of cardholders have completed e-KYC. However, over 3.15 lakh beneficiaries are still pending, risking their eligibility for next month’s free ration allotment.

How to Complete Ration Card e-KYC Step-by-Step

  1. Visit the Nearest Ration Shop or e-KYC Camp: Go to your assigned Public Distribution System (PDS) shop or nearby government camp where e-KYC is being conducted.

  2. Carry Essential Documents:

    • Ration Card (Original & Photocopy)

    • Aadhaar Card (Original & Photocopy) of the head of the household and listed members

  3. Biometric Verification:

    • Inform the dealer that you wish to complete your e-KYC.

    • The ration dealer will initiate the process and authenticate your identity using fingerprint scanning.

  4. Free of Cost:

    • This entire process is free; there is no government fee involved.

What Happens If You Don’t Do It?

If you fail to complete the e-KYC before April 30, 2025, your ration card may become inactive. This means you will no longer be eligible for free or subsidized food grains provided under government schemes.
