Rangasamy Confident of Puducherry Achieving Full Statehood Soon

New Delhi, May 6: N. Rangasamy, the Chief Minister-designate of Puducherry, expressed confidence on Wednesday that the Union Territory will soon attain full statehood. He stated that the NDA government has been consistently pressuring the center regarding this long-standing demand.

Following the NDA’s victory in the Puducherry assembly elections, Rangasamy is preparing to take office for a record fifth time.

During his visit to Salem in Tamil Nadu, he paid his respects at the famous Appa Paithiyam Swami Temple in Suramangalam, where he participated in prayers and special rituals.

After his temple visit, Rangasamy spoke to reporters and congratulated TVK leader Vijay, who emerged as the largest party by winning 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. He said, “I congratulate Vijay. I wish him success in implementing various welfare schemes for the public.”

Rangasamy’s remarks come at a time when TVK is seeking support from other parties to form a government in the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly.

The Congress party and several smaller parties have already indicated their support for Vijay’s coalition, while political discussions continue in Chennai.

Responding to the long-standing demand for statehood for Puducherry, Rangasamy emphasized that this issue remains a priority for his government. He stated, “We are continuously urging the central government. Statehood will be granted soon. As part of the NDA, we are persistently applying pressure on this matter.”

Regarding the formation of the new Puducherry cabinet, Rangasamy mentioned that details about ministerial appointments and departmental allocations will be clarified after the swearing-in ceremony and the formal commencement of the new government.

When asked about the support from Tamil Nadu Congress leaders for TVK, Rangasamy noted that such political developments are common when support is needed to establish a stable government.
