Mumbai, August 24: Central Minister Ramdas Athawale has urged the government to investigate complaints regarding vehicle malfunctions allegedly caused by ethanol-blended fuel. He emphasized that the decision to promote ethanol production was made with farmers’ interests in mind. However, if it is indeed harming vehicles, a thorough investigation is necessary, and consideration should be given to banning ethanol if needed.
Athawale noted that discussions had previously indicated that farmers could gain more economically from ethanol than from sugar. Following studies, the government approved the promotion of ethanol production. Until recently, everything seemed fine, but complaints about vehicle issues have emerged over the past couple of months. It is unprecedented for ethanol to be blamed for vehicle failures. If evidence shows that vehicles are being damaged, a scientific and technical study should be conducted.
The minister also stressed the importance of identifying which vehicles are experiencing issues and the underlying causes. He stated that it is crucial to study the entire situation rather than jumping to conclusions based solely on complaints. If investigations confirm that ethanol is causing damage, the government must take appropriate action.
Regarding the prospects of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi becoming Prime Minister, Athawale expressed skepticism, stating he does not foresee Gandhi assuming the role anytime soon. He believes that as long as the partnership between Narendra Modi and himself exists, Gandhi’s chances remain slim. However, he acknowledged that the public’s decision in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections would be respected. He emphasized the principle of ‘One Man, One Vote, One Value,’ stating that the party or coalition with a majority will come to power.
Athawale expressed confidence that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the NDA will return to power based on their accomplishments. He believes the Modi government has done commendable work for the country and expects public support in 2029.
The central minister urged Rahul Gandhi to collaborate with the government on developmental issues instead of continuously criticizing it. He acknowledged the opposition’s right to question and suggest improvements but stressed that mere accusations will not foster national development.
Recalling an incident where Rahul Gandhi embraced Prime Minister Modi in Parliament, Athawale pointed out that while political differences exist, both sides should engage in discussions for the country’s progress. He encouraged opposition parties to suggest improvements in various sectors and for the government to consider constructive feedback. By working together, he believes national development can accelerate.
Athawale concluded by stating that mutual accusations do not resolve issues or expedite development. He reiterated the government’s aim to advance the country with the opposition’s cooperation. He referenced Modi’s call for all political parties to unite for national progress and urged Gandhi to focus on positive collaboration rather than unfounded accusations.
He emphasized the vital roles of both the ruling party and the opposition in a democracy. While the government formulates policies, the opposition reviews them and provides better suggestions. Prioritizing national interest over political conflict is essential.
