In a recent post, Varma expressed concern over the contradictory statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, questioning whether he is solely relying on artificial intelligence for his decisions.
Varma raised issues regarding Trump’s foreign policy and the frequent changes in his statements. He asked, “Is Trump only listening to advice from artificial intelligence?”
In his post, Varma highlighted how Trump claims that “major combat operations have ended” one moment, only to refer to a “small campaign” that is supposedly coming to an end shortly after. He then threatens attacks on power plants and bridges, stating that if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately, Iran will be sent back to the Stone Age. Shortly thereafter, he suddenly speaks of “meaningful dialogue,” claiming that a “regime change” has already occurred in Iran.
Varma questioned what kind of reliable human intelligence could reach the Oval Office every few hours to justify these contradictions, especially given Trump’s reputation for ignoring officials, dismissing opponents, and distrusting advisors. He noted that traditional briefings, satellite feeds, or cabinet discussions operate at a human pace. The goals of war, economic impacts, potential Iranian responses, or domestic political repercussions cannot be altered instantly. However, artificial intelligence can rapidly analyze live data, creating thousands of “what if” scenarios based on war information, public sentiment, oil prices, and reactions from allied nations.
He pointed out that AI does not possess ego, does not delay, and does not oppose. It can provide precise options that align with Trump’s thinking. These sudden shifts seem reminiscent of an AI co-pilot’s operations. However, he cautioned that if a user is as inattentive as Trump, they could easily become overwhelmed by so many options.
At the end of his post, Varma commented on a separate issue. He noted that parents and teachers strive to keep children away from abusive and vulgar language to help them grow into respectful individuals. But if the President of the United States publicly uses obscene and derogatory language, what message are parents supposed to convey to their children?
