Jaipur : Amid the political upheavel in Rajasthan, Congress organisation in-charge KC Venugopal on Monday reached Delhi to submit interim report to party chief Sonia Gandhi.
He was earlier on Bharat Jodo Yatra with Rahul Gandhi. Senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Rajasthan Congress in-charge Ajay Maken, who were sent as observers to Rajasthan after meeting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday, have also reached Delhi. According to sources, a meeting is going on at Sonia Gandhi’s residence.
The pro-Gehlot MLAs are no longer in favour of even nomination of Ashok Gehlot for the post of Congress President. In the meetings of Shanti Dhariwal and Speaker of the Assembly Dr. CP Joshi, the MLAs advocated for keeping Gehlot as Rajasthan Chief Minister.
Earlier on Sunday night, the Gehlot faction refused to attend any meeting till October 19, that is, till the election of Congress President. The pro-Gehlot MLAs put three conditions before the high command. According to them, the Chief Minister should be made from amongst the MLAs who saved the government, only after the election of the Congress President, the new Chief Minister should be declared and the new Chief Minister should be of Gehlot’s choice.
State in-charge Ajay Maken expressed displeasure over the attitude of the MLAs of Gehlot faction. Maken said that non-attendance of the MLAs in the legislature party meeting is indiscipline. He said during this meeting they called a meeting of their own.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reached Hotel Marriott on Monday to meet Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge.
