Rajasthan Royals Captain Riyan Parag Reflects on Costly Missed Catches After SRH Defeat

Jaipur, April 26: In the 36th match of IPL 2026, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced a disappointing 5-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday. Following this third defeat of the season, RR captain Riyan Parag acknowledged that dropped catches significantly impacted the game.

After the match, Riyan stated, “We performed well in terms of skill. However, we dropped catches that cost us dearly. You cannot afford to drop catches against exceptional players like Abhishek. It’s part of the game. We need to be more clinical, and fielding plays a crucial role. We will come back mentally refreshed for the next match.”

He further added, “To be honest, they bowled well in the 18th and 19th overs with some excellent yorkers. We aimed to score an additional 10-15 runs. Both left-handed batsmen (Ishan and Abhishek) were at the crease, and I felt that my chances of taking wickets alongside Ferreira were better, as the pitch wasn’t aiding spinners. Things didn’t go as planned, but we will aim for the same approach next time.”

Batting first, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 228 runs, losing 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi starred with a remarkable century, scoring 103 runs off 37 balls, while Dhruv Jurel contributed 51 runs. However, SRH chased down the target of 229 runs in just 18.3 overs, losing 5 wickets.

For SRH, Abhishek Sharma scored 57 runs off 29 balls, while Ishan Kishan delivered a powerful performance with 74 runs off 31 balls. Heinrich Klaasen added 29 runs from 24 balls, and Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed 36 runs in 18 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. This victory marks SRH’s fifth win of the season, while RR faces their third defeat.
