Jaipur, January 16: Rajasthan continues to battle a combination of rain and a severe cold wave as multiple districts experience disruptions in daily life. Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Kota, and other regions remain on high alert with rainfall and plunging temperatures. Schools in affected areas have been closed or had their schedules modified, as per district administration directives.

Rain Forecast for Jaipur and Five Other Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Jaipur, Ajmer, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Bhilwara, and Bharatpur, predicting light to moderate rainfall on Thursday.

  • Western Disturbance: A weather system is bringing widespread rain to Jaipur, Ajmer, and Bharatpur divisions, with sporadic rainfall recorded overnight in Bharatpur.
  • Temperature Plunge: Jaipur and nearby regions saw a drop of 5 to 9 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures after the rains. Ajmer and Bhilwara recorded 6 degrees Celsius below the normal maximum.

School Closures and Adjusted Timings

  1. Jaipur: Classes 1 to 8 remain suspended for January 16. For Classes 9-12, schools will operate from 10 AM to 3 PM.
  2. Kota: Schools for Classes 1 to 5 are closed until January 18, while Classes 6 to 12 will operate with adjusted timings.
  3. Dausa (Deeg): Classes 1 to 8 in all schools are suspended from January 16 to January 18.
  4. Chittorgarh: Schools for Classes 1 to 8 are closed on January 16 and 17 due to cold and rain alerts.

Rainfall Updates and Impact on Roads

  • Bharatpur: Persistent drizzle has been ongoing since late Wednesday night, with light showers continuing into Thursday morning. Areas like Nadbai, Bayana, and Rupbas experienced overcast skies and cold winds.
  • Ajmer Highway Incident: Dense fog caused an accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway near Kishangarh, where a roadways bus mounted the divider. No injuries were reported, and a crane was deployed to remove the bus.

Temperature Highlights Across Rajasthan

  1. Jaipur: Recorded 5.2 mm of rain within an hour on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature at 15.8ยฐC and the minimum at 10.3ยฐC.
  2. Dholpur: Registered the coldest day at 13.9ยฐC.
  3. Jodhpur: Maximum temperature was 23.2ยฐC, while Barmer recorded 24.6ยฐC.
  4. Sikar, Pilani, Hanumangarh: These cities experienced colder nights than Mount Abu, with minimum temperatures below 5ยฐC. Hanumangarh was the coldest at 3.8ยฐC.

Dense Fog Across Regions

The state saw dense fog in Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Udaipur divisions, leading to reduced visibility and cooler days. Mount Abu, Rajasthanโ€™s hill station, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8ยฐC, warmer than Sikar and Pilani.

Looking Ahead

The IMD predicts cloud cover and light rain will persist until January 18 in Jaipur, Kota, and nearby areas. Farmers have been advised to protect crops from the adverse effects of sudden temperature drops and rainfall.
