Jaipur, May 20: Rajasthan police are investigating an interstate fraud network. The inquiry began when Jaipur East Airport police arrested three individuals attempting to travel to Iraq using fake tourist visas. Authorities provided this information on Wednesday.
Police recovered three counterfeit tourist visas from the suspects and have launched an investigation into a larger network involved in arranging fake travel documents.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Suresh Kumar (47) from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh; Alok Kumar Singh (31) from Patna, Bihar; and Rupesh Yadav (32) from East Champaran, Bihar. According to DCP (East) Ranjita Sharma, the trio arrived at Jaipur Airport on Tuesday with the intention of traveling to Baghdad, Iraq.
During routine document checks, airport officials became suspicious of the authenticity of their visas and detained them for questioning. The suspects allegedly admitted they were unable to travel using their genuine multiple-entry Iraqi visas. They then contacted an agent in Jaipur, Mukesh Lakhar, who promised to arrange tourist visas for them. Police reported that the suspects arrived in Jaipur on May 17 at the agent’s request and were accommodated in a hotel in the Polo Victory area.
The following day, the agent reportedly handed them the tourist visas and instructed them on how to respond during airport inquiries. The suspects were directed to tell immigration officials that they were traveling to Baghdad due to a technical malfunction in a machine sent from Jaipur that required repairs. However, airport officials grew suspicious during the investigation process.
Upon further questioning, the three became anxious, leading to their detention and subsequent arrest. A case has been registered at the airport police station under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police officials stated that intensive questioning of the suspects is ongoing, while efforts to identify the larger network involved in supplying fake visas and facilitating illegal travel abroad are also underway.
The three suspects have been presented before the court, and further investigations are in progress.
