Rajasthan Government Pushes for Increased Crude Oil Production Using Advanced Technology

Jaipur, July 15: In response to a decline in crude oil production in recent years, the Rajasthan government has urged oil-producing companies to adopt new technologies to enhance output.

Aparna Arora, Additional Chief Secretary (Mines and Petroleum), stated that refining more crude oil within the state will significantly boost value addition and promote economic growth.

The Rajasthan government is intensifying efforts to develop a comprehensive action plan aimed at increasing the production of crude oil and natural gas in the state. This plan emphasizes the adoption of modern technologies and the expansion of exploration activities.

During a high-level meeting at the secretariat with senior officials from organizations involved in crude oil and natural gas exploration and production, Arora highlighted the need to implement globally successful technologies to increase production. She noted that Rajasthan ranks second in onshore natural gas production and third in crude oil production in the country.

Currently, Rajasthan has the capacity to process approximately 1.5 million tons of crude oil produced within the state.

Arora pointed out that there has been a recent decline in crude oil production and urged producing companies to adopt the latest technologies to reverse this trend. She emphasized that refining more of Rajasthan’s crude oil within the state will significantly contribute to economic development and value addition.

The Additional Chief Secretary suggested that oil and gas companies should adopt a dual strategy: accelerating exploration in new potential areas while also increasing production from existing fields using modern recovery techniques. She stressed the need for a long-term action plan to achieve continuous production growth.

She also mentioned that Rajasthan hosts four major crude oil and natural gas basins: the Jaisalmer Basin, Barmer-Sanchore Basin, Bikaner-Nagaur Basin, and Vindhyan Basin.
