Rain, Hailstorm Hit 10 Cities in Rajasthan; IMD Warns of Gusty Winds and Temperature Dip

Jaipur, April 11, 2025 . Weather Update Rajasthan — A sudden change in weather conditions brought rain, hailstorm, and strong winds to several parts of Rajasthan on Friday, providing much-needed relief from the intense summer heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), at least 10 cities witnessed light to moderate rainfall, with hailstorms reported in Jaipur, Bikaner, and Hanumangarh.

Rain, Hail, and Darkness Across Key Districts

Under the influence of an active Western Disturbance, regions in both eastern and western Rajasthan experienced gusty winds at speeds of 40–50 km/h, bringing down tree cover, damaging crops, and causing reduced visibility.

Cities including Jaipur, Bikaner, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Sikar, Churu, Pilani, Fatehpur, Vanasthali, and Nagaur recorded varying intensities of rainfall. In some places, such as Bikaner and Hanumangarh, strong winds and cloud cover led to daytime darkness, intensifying the dramatic weather shift.

Hailstorm Damages Rabi Crops in Key Farming Areas

The IMD confirmed hailstones ranging from chickpea-sized to berry-sized fell in parts of Jaipur, Hanumangarh, and Bikaner, damaging standing rabi crops, particularly wheat and mustard, which were still in the fields. The weather disruption may lead to economic losses for farmers, especially in the northern belt of the state.

Jaipur Records Rain, Hail, and Dust-Laden Winds

In Jaipur, light showers and hail were reported in multiple areas including Dadi ka Phatak and Benad Road, accompanied by strong dust-carrying winds that reduced visibility. The city saw a noticeable drop in temperature, with maximum temperature at 40°C and minimum at 25.7°C. A 1.1°C dip in day temperature and 0.9°C drop in night temperature were recorded post-rainfall.

Forecast: More Rain and Thunderstorms on April 12

According to IMD Director Radheyshyam Sharma, more thunderstorm activity is expected on Saturday (April 12) in regions including Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Kota, and Bharatpur divisions. The department has issued a warning for gusty winds (40–50 km/h) along with light to moderate rainfall.

However, from April 13 onwards, the weather is expected to turn mostly dry, with temperatures set to rise by 2–3°C, potentially reaching 45°C by April 14–15 in parts of southwestern Rajasthan, accompanied by the onset of a new heatwave spell.

Temperature Trends Across Rajasthan

• Kota was the hottest city on Friday with a maximum temperature of 42.2°C.

• Humidity levels across the state ranged from 7% to 65%, creating mixed comfort levels.

• The highest rainfall was recorded in Rupwas, Bharatpur with 12.0 mm.
