Rain Brings Relief in Ranchi: Temperature Drops by 3°C, Cooler Weather to Continue Until April 19

Ranchi, April 16, 2025 — In a welcome turn of weather, Ranchi and surrounding regions witnessed a significant drop in temperature following 15mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The minimum temperature plummeted to 17.9°C, giving residents a much-needed respite from the April heat.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Ranchi fell by three degrees, creating a cooler climate reminiscent of winter months. The weather turned pleasant, and residents experienced an unusual November-December-like chill in mid-April.

Rainfall Recorded Across the Region

• Ranchi: Maximum temperature dropped to 30.7°C

• Jamshedpur: Recorded 33°C

• Daltonganj: Notched 36.6°C

• Bokaro: Registered 32.1°C

The IMD attributes this change to Kal Baisakhi, a seasonal phenomenon characterized by thunderstorms and sudden weather changes common in eastern India during the pre-monsoon months.

Yellow Alert Issued Until April 19

The weather department has issued a Yellow Alert for Jharkhand through April 19, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across several districts. These conditions are expected to keep temperatures in check and extend relief from the summer heat.
