Srinagar, April 16, 2025 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Srinagar has forecasted light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of north and central Kashmir this afternoon. While todayโ€™s impact is expected to be limited, a more significant weather event is predicted between April 18 and 20.

Moderate to Heavy Rain and Snowfall Likely This Weekend

According to the latest advisory, cloudy skies, widespread light to moderate rain, and even snowfall in higher elevations are expected from April 18 to 20 across the Kashmir Valley. The IMD has issued a special alert for April 18-19, during which moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds may affect various districts.

Authorities have warned of possible disruptions, including:

  • Landslides

  • Mudslides

  • Falling rocks in vulnerable hilly terrain

  • Localized flooding

Advisory for Farmers and Travelers

Farmers are advised to suspend agricultural operations between April 18 and 20 due to potentially hazardous weather. Residents and tourists traveling to or within Kashmir during this period are urged to follow weather alerts and traffic advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety.

Outlook Beyond April 20

The weather is expected to turn dry after April 20, with partly cloudy conditions on April 21, along with the possibility of scattered light rain or thundershowers. From April 22 to 27, the region is forecasted to experience dry and stable weather, allowing for normal outdoor activities and travel.
