Mumbai, February 17: Rahul Shewale, the National Secretary of Shiv Sena and former Member of Parliament, has urged the central government to issue a special postage stamp in honor of the late Balasaheb Thackeray on the occasion of his birth centenary. The central government has shown a positive response to Shewale’s written statement submitted to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

In his statement, Shewale highlighted Thackeray’s significant social and political contributions. Since the 1960s, Balasaheb Thackeray has played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of Maharashtra and the entire country. As a Hindutva leader, a talented cartoonist, and a captivating speaker, Thackeray consistently presented his role in various forms. Shewale noted that through his writings, speeches, and cartoons, Thackeray instilled a sense of self-respect among the common people.

Recently, on January 27, Balasaheb Thackeray’s 100th birth anniversary was celebrated with great fervor across the nation. To pay special tribute to Thackeray on this milestone, Shewale has requested the central government to issue a special postage stamp, fulfilling the wishes of millions of his admirers nationwide.

Earlier, Neelam Gorhe, the Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, paid tribute to Thackeray on the occasion of his centenary. She mentioned that she had known Balasaheb Thackeray for the past 28 years and had learned continuously from his leadership.

Gorhe stated, “Balasaheb Thackeray was a towering leader. He explained the concept of nationalism through Hindutva, placing Maharashtra, Marathi people, and the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the center of his ideology.”

She also shared that Thackeray believed that 80% of life should be dedicated to social work, with only 20% for politics. Neelam Gorhe added that Thackeray was globally appreciated for his cartoons and had a deep interest in cricket, art, literature, and music, reflecting his multifaceted thinking.
