New Delhi, May 20: A statement made by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has ignited a fresh controversy in Indian politics. During a public rally in Raebareli, Gandhi directed controversial remarks at the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. Following his comments, the BJP launched a fierce attack on Congress, while the party defended Gandhi, asserting that his words reflect the anger and frustration of the public.
As the MP from Raebareli addressed the gathering, he accused the BJP and RSS of acting against the nation’s interests and attacking the Constitution. His remarks about the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the RSS have intensified political discussions.
In response, Congress rallied behind their leader, claiming that Gandhi articulated the sentiments felt by the citizens. During a press conference in New Delhi, Congress leader Pawan Khera stated that there is a pervasive atmosphere of concern and anger across all sections of society. Many, especially those who voted for the current government, feel deceived. There is a sense of despair, sorrow, and rage among the people. As a responsible opposition, it is our duty to voice that anger. What Gandhi expressed is even less than what we hear on the streets.
Khera asserted that public outrage is even sharper than Gandhi’s words. He remarked, “If you ask people on the street about the government and listen to their unedited responses, you will realize that the truth is far more bitter than Gandhi’s statement. A leader must have the capacity to hear such harsh truths.”
However, Congress’s ally, the Samajwadi Party, distanced itself from Gandhi’s remarks. Samajwadi Party MP Avadhesh Prasad stated in an interview, “This is his ideology. We cannot use such language.”
