Raebareli, May 20: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi delivered a strong critique of the central government and the BJP during the unveiling of the statue of freedom fighter Veera Pasi in Lodhwari village. Speaking at the ‘Bahujan Swabhiman Sabha,’ he warned that the country is heading towards an economic crisis that will severely impact the common people.
Gandhi highlighted that rising tensions in West Asia and the U.S.-Iran conflict are disrupting global trade. He claimed that any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would hinder the supply of oil and essential goods, leading to increased inflation in the near future. He pointed out that prices of petrol, gas, and daily necessities are set to rise, criticizing Prime Minister Modi for being disconnected from the issues faced by ordinary citizens.
He emphasized that as economic conditions worsen, the public will face significant hardships. During the assembly, Gandhi also prominently raised issues concerning the Constitution and social equality. He stated that Veera Pasi and B.R. Ambedkar fought for equality and rights.
“Every citizen in India is equal. Everyone deserves the full fruits of their labor and the right to equality. This country belongs to all, not just one caste or organization. This is what our Constitution states,” he asserted. He added that the Constitution is the voice of the people and protecting it is every citizen’s duty.
While showing a copy of the Constitution, Gandhi remarked, “Merely chanting slogans will not suffice. Change and the protection of rights will come from safeguarding the Constitution.” He accused the RSS and BJP of undermining the Constitution’s core spirit, stressing the need to protect the independence of democratic institutions and social justice.
Before arriving at the assembly, Gandhi paused his convoy upon seeing a crowd in Bharatganj market. He stepped out to meet people, inquire about their well-being, and accept their greetings. Local residents presented him with flowers and bouquets. Earlier, he also met with party workers and locals to listen to their concerns. Meanwhile, in the Amethi area, posters comparing Congress MP Kishori Lal Sharma’s tenure with that of former MP Smriti Irani were also observed.
