Rahul Gandhi Kicks Off Campaign in Malda District for West Bengal Elections

Kolkata, April 13: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to participate in the party’s campaign for the West Bengal assembly elections. Party officials announced this on Sunday.

He will begin his campaign in Malda district, a former stronghold of Congress. Due to changing political dynamics in the state, the party is eager to regain lost ground. Rahul Gandhi is entering the electoral arena with a message of change.

This marks his first visit to Malda in seven years. His rally is scheduled for April 14 at the Kalambagan ground in Chanchal.

On Sunday afternoon, top Congress leaders and police officials inspected the Kalambagan ground to assess security arrangements, infrastructure, and preparations for the gathering.

Party leaders claim that at least 100,000 people are expected to attend.

Rahul Gandhi has a long-standing relationship with the Gani Khan Chowdhury family in Malda. He is placing special emphasis on the Chanchal and Sujapur constituencies. Reports indicate that he will hold a rally in support of candidate Mausam Noor from the Malatipur constituency, as well as another public meeting in Sujapur.

During the April 14 meeting, Rahul Gandhi will campaign for four Congress candidates: Mausam Noor from Malatipur, Asif Mahboob from Chanchal, Mushtaq Alam from Harishchandrapur, and Muttakin Alam from Ratua. This event provides an opportunity to showcase Congress’s strength in four key centers of the district.

Preparations for the meeting are in full swing, including the establishment of a temporary helipad for Rahul Gandhi’s arrival. After landing, he is expected to travel by car to the rally site.

Indra Narayan Majumdar, the district Congress general secretary, stated, “Rahul Gandhi knows Chanchal very well. That’s why he chose this location again. We expect more than 100,000 people to gather. There is tremendous enthusiasm among the public to see him and hear his speech.”
