Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Assam Chief Minister for Remarks Against Kharge

New Delhi, April 7: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a senior Congress leader, launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday. He condemned Sarma’s comments directed at Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, labeling the language used as disrespectful, shameful, and unacceptable.

In a post on the social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi stated, “The crude and derogatory language used by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, is completely condemnable, shameful, and unacceptable.”

He emphasized that Kharge is a senior and popular Dalit leader in the country, whose experience, stature, and reputation are unparalleled. Disrespecting him is not just an insult to an individual but also to millions in the SC-ST community across the nation. He pointed out that this is not a new occurrence but rather a reflection of the longstanding and orchestrated mentality of the BJP-RSS.

The Congress leader remarked that whether it is an insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar, belittling Dalit leaders, or personal attacks on representatives of the SC-ST community, the history of the BJP and RSS shows that whenever a Dalit leader speaks the truth, they resort to humiliation. This, he asserted, is their ideology and true character.

Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the matter, Rahul Gandhi asked, “Prime Minister Modi, do you support Himanta Sarma’s language? Your silence is not a sign of helplessness but of agreement.”

He further stated that if Prime Minister Modi remains silent while the dignity of millions of Dalits is under attack, he is not only shirking his responsibility but also complicit in that humiliation.

Gandhi’s comments have heightened the ongoing political tension between Congress and BJP ahead of the elections, with both parties exchanging sharp accusations over leadership, ideology, and social justice issues.
