Puri Commends Stable Energy Prices Amid Global Challenges at India Energy Week

Goa, January 29 – During India Energy Week 2026, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, highlighted India’s progress in the energy sector and global partnerships. He stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the $500 billion investment opportunity in the energy sector is real and efforts are rapidly underway to achieve it.

Speaking about a recent meeting with CEOs on January 27, Minister Puri mentioned that global discussions with the Prime Minister focused on new possibilities in the energy domain. He said, “The $500 billion economic opportunity, along with $100 billion in exploration and production, are both very realistic.” Puri emphasized that India is now integrating energy security, sustainability, and economic growth together.

On the EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the minister described it as historic. He said, “This is a very significant development. The EU has called it the ‘mother of all trade agreements.’ It is a major deal. Our exports will get zero-duty access on 98 percent of products in the EU market, which includes 27 countries with high purchasing power, making it beneficial for both sides.” Puri termed the agreement a great opportunity to boost India’s exports and strengthen its position in global trade.

Referring to business deals in the port and shelter sectors, Puri noted considerable progress. He appreciated India’s energy policies amidst global challenges. The minister said, “Despite these challenges, prices for the common man have been kept in check. During pre-season or market turbulence, when the dollar fluctuates, sometimes routes get blocked and freight carriers must take longer paths, increasing freight charges. However, insurance rates have not risen anywhere. This is happening in BJP-ruled states, with a focus also on sustainability.”
