Patna, May 7: Rajiv Ranjan, the national spokesperson for the Janata Dal United (JDU), expressed his views on recent bombings in Punjab, the political situation in West Bengal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reactions, and the upcoming Bihar cabinet oath-taking ceremony.
In an interview with a news agency, Ranjan stated that the bombings in Punjab appear to be a matter of national security, given that the incidents occurred near military cantonment areas and BSF offices.
He noted that the police are investigating based on CCTV footage and other evidence, suggesting the involvement of masked individuals.
Ranjan accused Bhagwant Mann’s government of weakening law and order in the state, which is concerning for the sensitive border state of Punjab. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Regarding Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to resign and her statement about fighting “like a lion,” Ranjan described it as a reaction from a desperate and defeated leader. He argued that when the public has given a clear mandate, power should be transferred according to constitutional traditions. He stated that the constitution does not allow a defeated government to remain in power after elections, making such statements unconstitutional.
On the violence following the elections in Bengal and the Election Commission’s directives, he remarked that the long-standing alliance between TMC workers and anti-social elements has caused difficulties for the general public. He claimed that the TMC is showing signs of frustration after a significant defeat, manifesting in violent incidents. Ranjan asserted that with the change of power in the state, law and order would improve, and the administration would function according to established standards.
Discussing the proposed cabinet oath-taking ceremony in Bihar, he clarified that it is not a show of power but an opportunity to express gratitude to the public. He stated that the NDA has received a clear mandate in the state, and the new government would be formed in line with the people’s expectations. He also mentioned that under the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary, the government would take shape, while Nitish Kumar’s experience and guidance would continue to contribute to the state’s development.
Ranjan sharply criticized Rahul Gandhi’s expression of sympathy towards Mamata Banerjee, labeling it as “crocodile tears.” He pointed out that during the elections, Gandhi had made serious allegations against Banerjee and her government, even suggesting her departure. However, he noted that Gandhi’s statements have changed following the power shift, accusing him of using this as a political strategy to maintain the so-called opposition alliance.
