Chandigarh, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab Police has achieved a significant milestone by successfully extraditing a fugitive from Europe for the first time, with the assistance of central agencies. On September 12, 2026, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the extradition of Amritpal Singh, also known as Amrit Dalm, from the Republic of Moldova. Singh is a key member of the Jaggu Bhagpuria gang and is wanted for multiple serious offenses.
In a post on the social media platform X, DGP Yadav detailed that Singh faces charges including murder, attempted murder, violations of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, and drug-related crimes. He emphasized that this case marks the first extradition from a European country by Punjab Police, representing a crucial achievement in the fight against organized crime.
DGP Yadav attributed the success of “Operation Eastern Reach” to the collaborative efforts of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab and the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTSEC) Punjab, along with central agencies and international partners. The operation involved six months of intelligence-driven international searches.
He also expressed gratitude to officials from Moldova and Azerbaijan, the CBI’s International Police Cooperation Unit, and various ministries for their support in this operation.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police’s “Gangsteran Te War” campaign entered its 235th day on Saturday. Just a day prior, police conducted 601 raids targeting locations linked to gang associates throughout the state.
Since the campaign’s launch on January 20 by the DGP, police teams across all districts have been collaborating with the AGTF for special operations statewide. On Friday alone, authorities seized four weapons and arrested 261 individuals, bringing the total number of arrests since the campaign began to 69,703.
Additionally, precautionary actions have been taken against 236 individuals, and eight declared criminals have been apprehended during the operation, according to an official statement.
