Chandigarh, May 10: Ashwani Sharma, the acting president of the Punjab BJP, has supported the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at the residence of Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora. He claims the Punjab government aims to create a negative atmosphere by disseminating false information to the public.
In an interview with a news agency, Sharma stated, “Those who portray themselves as highly honest and advocate for anti-corruption measures have had their corrupt faces revealed.” He pointed out that during the COVID-19 pandemic, there were instances of corruption related to alcohol deliveries. He emphasized that when land scams worth millions and billions occurred in cities like Ludhiana, Mohali, and Kharar, those involved should also be prepared for scrutiny.
Sharma accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of attempting to disrupt the state’s environment. “Neither Punjab, nor democracy, nor the Constitution is in danger. The only ones in peril are the corrupt leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party. Minister Sanjeev Arora was arrested by the ED after multiple raids related to a money laundering case. The protests by the Aam Aadmi Party reflect thuggery, while the police remain silent. There have been attempts to damage our offices in Ludhiana and Balachaur. They talk about democracy, but their actions contradict those claims. A party elected to eradicate corruption is now defending leaders tainted by it,” he said.
Sharma added, “We are currently assessing the situation and observing what has transpired. There was also a scuffle in Ludhiana, where one of our workers sustained minor injuries. However, we will respond politically to these incidents and provide an appropriate response. The Aam Aadmi Party, which claims to fight corruption, has taken to the streets, indicating that the government has already lost the public’s trust. The facade of honesty they wore has completely fallen away. Punjab will never tolerate this.”
