Chandigarh, August 18: Punjab Congress President Raja Amarinder Singh Warring accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of disrespecting the judiciary. This allegation follows directives issued by the state’s finance department, which appear to contradict the Punjab and Haryana High Court‘s orders regarding the payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to government employees.
Warring stated that it is unprecedented for the Punjab finance department to challenge the court’s orders on DA payments. He highlighted that the finance department has issued a general order to all departments, stating that no orders can be implemented without prior consent from the finance department or without general directives.
Expressing strong objections to this stance, Warring questioned whether court orders would indeed be subject to the finance department’s approval. Today’s directives suggest this possibility.
Former Congress cabinet minister Vijay Inder Singla also launched a sharp attack on the AAP government. He remarked that disregarding the judiciary, plunging the state into excessive debt, and unfairly treating employees to serve the interests of their political leaders in Delhi is a grave insult to the people of Punjab.
He further commented that Chief Minister Mann is not governing but rather running a scheme of corruption. When a chief minister believes that his political existence is above the judiciary, democratic governance has officially surrendered to extreme arrogance.
This controversy has sparked a new debate in Punjab’s political corridors, with Congress accusing the AAP government of undermining judicial authority and ignoring the legitimate concerns of government employees. The issue of DA payments has long been a sensitive topic in the state, often leading to disputes between employees and the administration.
