Punjab Chief Minister Meets Players Ahead of Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup

New Delhi, August 8: The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is set to kick off on August 30. The tournament auction will take place on August 9. One day prior, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a special meeting with the players participating in the tournament.

Bhagwant Mann shared photos from the meeting on his social media platform, X. Among those present were Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and opener Abhishek Sharma. The Chief Minister expressed his joy, stating, “I was very happy to meet the players of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup. Punjab has always produced talented athletes for the nation. Our government is continuously working to connect youth with sports and strengthen the state’s position in this field.”

Providing details about the tournament schedule, Chief Minister Mann said, “Six teams will participate in this T20 Cup. All matches will be held from August 30 to September 13 at the PCA Cricket Stadium in Mohali. Playing Punjab, Growing Punjab.”

The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League will feature six teams, including those from Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Mohali. The auction on August 9 is expected to see around 250 players, with approximately 120 players likely to be bid on by six franchises. Each team can have a maximum of 20 players in their squad.

Each franchise will have a salary purse of 4.5 million rupees. International players from Punjab will also participate in this league. Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, and Indian Test and ODI team captain Shubman Gill are among those expected to play. A total of 27 matches will be held in the tournament, which will follow a round-robin format, leading to knockout stage matches.
