Punjab BJP Criticizes CM Mann Over Voter List Controversy

Punjab BJP leader Keval Singh Dhillon criticizes CM Bhagwant Mann for his remarks on the special intensive revision of voter lists.

Chandigarh, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : The Punjab BJP has taken aim at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann following his remarks regarding the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list during a recent assembly speech. Keval Singh Dhillon, the president of Punjab BJP, expressed astonishment at Mann’s comments, stating, “You run the state government; this process was completed by your officials, and you initiated the SIR yourself. Now, you are questioning it.”

Dhillon emphasized that the entire process was managed by the state’s administrative framework. In a statement, he pointed out that all personnel involved, from deputy commissioners to booth-level officials, were under the state government’s administration, with no role from the central government.

He raised a critical question: “If there were mistakes made by your officials during the SIR, why did your party leaders approach the Election Commission claiming everything was fine?” Dhillon noted the contradiction in Mann’s statements, where the Chief Minister accused the SIR of irregularities while his party’s leaders assured the Election Commission that the process was proceeding smoothly.

He challenged Mann to name even one voter who was wrongly removed from the list, asserting that if any errors occurred, it would be a serious issue for which the state government must be held accountable. Dhillon characterized Mann’s comments as evidence of an “ineffective government,” suggesting that the administration has lost its ability to think clearly and make sound decisions.

Furthermore, he indicated that it appears Mann no longer trusts his own ministers and officials. Dhillon recalled that when the SIR process began in Punjab, Mann had promised that no voter’s name would be removed from the list. He insisted that if any names were indeed wrongfully removed, the Chief Minister would have to answer for it, adding that Mann cannot evade responsibility by making unfounded accusations against the central government.
