John Brittas announces preparations for a public impeachment against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, emphasizing the need to address public concerns.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Preparations are underway for a public impeachment program against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, organized by the INDIA alliance. CPI(M) MP John Brittas announced that the event will be chaired by former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. The leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha will present the motion, while the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha will conclude the discussions. Additionally, representatives affected by the SIR will present their evidence.
Brittas stated that the public impeachment will showcase the aspirations of the people. “We will conduct a proper impeachment-style process,” he explained, noting that representatives from various parties will share their views. Civil society members and individuals impacted by the SIR will also participate.
Regarding the INDIA bloc meeting, JMM MP Mahua Maji mentioned that discussions focused on the preparations for Thursday’s public impeachment event, which is expected to be historic. She emphasized the importance of not suppressing the people’s voice, stating that when the public faces challenges, systems begin to break down. “If you want the systems to function smoothly and the country to progress, how can you achieve that if students are struggling?” she questioned, highlighting issues in education and employment.
Maji noted the broken promise of providing two million jobs, stating that jobs are diminishing. She pointed out that many used to find employment in the military, which offered lifelong pensions, but now service is limited to just three years. With the rise of online shopping, small businesses are also struggling to survive. “Jobs are disappearing, and we are in the age of AI,” she remarked.
Congress MP Pawan Khera expressed satisfaction with the preparations, indicating that discussions about the public impeachment’s structure were productive, covering who will speak and addressing all relevant points.
Khera also commented on the recent MLC election results, suggesting that conspiracies are afoot. He cited incidents in Telangana where trains were canceled and attempts were made to disrupt bus services. Reports from various states indicate that police are harassing key activists.
Regarding the BJP’s rally, Khera criticized the timing, noting that the opposition’s rally is scheduled for a day when markets are closed, potentially harming traders. “The market is open on the day of their rally, so they are not causing any damage to businesses,” he added, highlighting the perceived double standards that the public has observed.
