New Delhi, February 25: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has condemned the arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, by Delhi police, calling it shameful. She stated that the Congress party stands firmly with the fearless soldiers of the Youth Congress.
In a post on the social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra emphasized that peaceful and non-violent resistance for truth is a proud legacy inherited from Mahatma Gandhi and countless Indian ancestors. She asserted that it is in the interest of 1.4 billion Indians to raise their voices against a government that compromises national interests under global pressure. She described the actions taken against the Youth Congress members as extremely condemnable and shameful, reaffirming the Congress party’s support for them.
Senior Congress leaders have also expressed their objections regarding the arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib. Senior leader K.C. Venugopal remarked that the government is ignoring the voices of those who are protesting for the public, including farmers.
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala stated that if opposing the government is a crime, then every member of Congress will continue to commit that crime repeatedly.
Uday Bhanu Chib’s mother, Rajnibala, shared that he was arrested on Monday. The police labeled the protest as a conspiracy, but she questioned when protesting against the government became a conspiracy in the country. She highlighted that the Constitution grants citizens the right to raise their voices against governmental wrongdoing.
Rajnibala recalled that the Congress party has a history of individuals spending years in jail for their beliefs. She noted that the sacrifices of many Congress leaders led to the country’s independence, and despite numerous protests in the past, the Congress government never suppressed dissent.
