New Delhi, 2 January: Shiv Sena UBT Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has expressed serious concern over the misuse of the AI feature Grok on the social media platform X. On Friday, she wrote a letter to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging immediate intervention to stop the alleged objectionable and obscene use of women’s pictures through Grok.
In her letter addressed to Minister Vaishnaw, who handles Railways, Communications, and Information Technology, Priyanka Chaturvedi highlighted a troubling new trend on social media, especially on X. She pointed out that men are creating fake accounts to post women’s photos and using Grok with prompts that reduce their clothing in images and sexualise them. This misuse is not limited to fake accounts sharing pictures but also targets women who post their own photos. She described this as unacceptable and a gross abuse of AI functionality.
The Shiv Sena UBT MP further noted that Grok’s acceptance of such requests only encourages this behaviour. She emphasised that this violates women’s privacy rights and amounts to unauthorised use of their images, which is not just unethical but also criminal.
Writing as an active member of the IT and Communications Standing Committee, Priyanka Chaturvedi urged the minister to raise this issue firmly with X and ensure that security measures are implemented in AI applications to make the platform safer for women. She stressed that the nation cannot remain silent while women’s dignity is violated publicly and digitally under the guise of creativity and innovation.
She also mentioned similar patterns emerging on other major tech platforms, where no effective action is being taken. Priyanka said that as a nation, it is imperative to prioritise this matter to prevent women from becoming victims of such open criminal acts and being silenced or pushed out of these platforms.
Concluding her letter, Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed hope for a positive response and expected that the minister would engage with major tech companies. She welcomed the role of AI in making life easier but firmly stated that disrespectful actions against women will not be allowed to spread.
